Apprentices accrue service days towards long service leave in the same way as other workers in the scheme.
Employers of apprentices do not have to pay a levy for the service they report to CBS, until the apprentice becomes a tradesperson.
Foreman & Supervisors
If you become an on-site foreman within 1 year of ceasing as a construction worker and you supervise other on-site employees, you may continue registration with the scheme.
Supervisors responsible for the daily on-site supervision of works, may have their supervisory period of employment recognised and apply for payment of their worker credits once their combined service as a worker and supervisor exceeds 1820 days.
Self-employed contractors can voluntarily register with Construction Benefit Services and make contributions toward their own long service leave.
Please click on the Contractors link for further information about this scheme.
If you are seconded to work for your Union on leave without pay with your employer, the Union can register you until you have accrued 2600 days service. After this time, you can claim for long service leave.
Your employer can also voluntarily register you if you are a Working Director.
Registration can be completed by downloading a Working Director Registration Application form and posting it to Construction Benefit Services.
