Registration can be effected by downloading an Employer Registration Application
and posting it to Construction Benefit Services. It is compulsory to register within
one month of employing workers in the construction industry.
An employer is an individual, partnership, company or family trust employing workers
(including apprentices and casuals):
- for 3 or more days in any month (of no less than 5 hours per day),
under a contract of service in the construction industry;
- who work predominantly on-site;
- in a classification of work referred to in one of the prescribed
Awards.

You may voluntarily register with the scheme if you employ workers off-site:
- under the Fibrous Plasterers (Factory) Award or;
- as a Carpenter, Joiner, Tradesperson, Terrazzo Assistant, Factory
Hand, Machinist or Adult Trainee - Terrazzo Worker (1st six months) in the National
Joinery and Building Trades Product Award 1993. (and previously paid under the Terrazzo
& Concrete Casting Award).
The Act does not apply to employment:
- by the Crown or an agency or instrumentality of the Crown,
- by a council,
- where the worker carries out construction work
on premises owned or occupied by their employer (not being premises intended for
subsequent sale or lease) and that is the sole construction work in which the worker
is engaged by that employer.
